“Esprit” Domaine des Jeanne – Rosé, Luberon 2017
Domaine des Jeanne was formed when Welshman Lord Mervyn Davies of Abersoch was introduced to winemaker Alexandre Samour, whilst sourcing the perfect rosé for his daughter’s wedding in 2011.
The Vineyard in Oppède, in the Luberon region of Provence, is situated between the mountains and the sea, close to the legendary wine-producing commune of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
The domaine’s first harvest was in 2012, releasing their first rosé in 2013, named ‘Jeanne’ after his Mervyn’s wife and Alex’s daughter. Jeanne appropriately means ‘divine gift’, and represents the importance of family to both founders.
Lovingly produced from grenache, syrah and clairette grape varieties, its rose petal colour precedes a red and white fruit bouquet highlighted with citrus notes; a well-balanced crisp palate, full of freshness, with a subtle fruity finale.
This wine works well on its own or partnered with fish, spicy foods and lamb. Enjoy over the next couple of years.

Calmel & Joseph – Chardonnay Villa Blanche, 2017/18
Very expressive with white flowers and fruity aromas of apricot and vineyard peach, along with dried fruit and nut overtones. Calmel & Joseph, Corbières, 2016/17
Ruby-red robe and a pronounced nose of black fruit, fresh figs and prunes. Clean and crisp on the palate, with notes of garrigue scrubland, spices and quince. Fine tannins, ending with a hint of truffle. Well-balanced and elegant, with very good ageing potential.
16.5/20 Jancis Robinson.
“Syrah, Grenache and a bit of Cinsault. Pure delicious red fruit on the nose. Sweet rounded cherry and plum swathed in a sinewy, slightly rugged, leather strap of tannins. The taut refined acidity, that is such a hallmark of Calmel & Joseph, strims through the sweetness of the fruit like a blade, leaving freshness and just a hint of earthy spice in its wake. Just a little Cinsault, and yet it brings it distinctive soprano note into the deeper alto and bass tones of the Syrah and Grenache.”
Cannonau di Sardegna Costera, Argiolas, 2017
Made from the Sardinian clone of Grenache called Cannonau, Carignan & Bovale Sardo, it is a chunky, robust, meaty effort revealing scents of garrigue, kirsch liqueur, white chocolate, pepper, and spice. Full-bodied, with terrific fruit as well as loads of personality.
Cantina di Custoza – Bardolino Chiaretto, 2017
Pale pink with brilliant reflections and white rim. The bouquet is fairly bright, with sour cherry and wild strawberry fruit. On the palate it’s fairly rich with a moderate mineral acidity.
Bardolino is produced in the province of Verona to the east of Lake Garda. Chiaretto is the rosé version.
The blend of grapes here is similar to that of Valpolicella, typically including Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara.
Chateau du Fauga – AC Grand Vin Blanc, Montravel, 2017/18
Lively, fruity aromas. In clayey-limestone soils, the grapes are very ripe and thus give off aromas of candied fruit. Château Fauga is made with 90% Sauvignon, or 100% according to the vintage. Fermentation is carried out at a low temperature with a skin maceration of 24 hours – adding weight and complexity to the wine. Suggested dishes: Seafood platter, raw vegetables, fondue Savoyarde.

DFJ Vinhos – Vega, Douro, 2017
A deep plummy red with ripe black fruit characteristics, herbs and spices with unmistakable aromas of fresh earth. Complex with a firm grip of tannins, typical of the region.
90 Points Wine Enthusiast.
“This is a firmly structured, dark wine. It has black cherry and berry fruit, a solid core of tannins and tight acidity. With its dense character, there is every chance of this impressive wine aging well, yielding a more rounded wine. Drink from 2016.” R.V. (12/1/2013)
Classic fermentation method, involving selective extractive enzymes, which are compatible with the active dry yeasts. Fermentation up to 30º C in the first 2/3, and lowering down to 20º C during the last 1/3. During the whole fermentative process, pumping over 2 times per day, using each time half of the volume contained in the vat. After the alcoholic fermentation, the cap is plunged for 30 days, and during that period, extraction of the gentle tannins is conducted, along with the malolactic fermentation and the natural stabilization of the wine.
Ageing Wine is aged in new French of Allier oak barrels of 225 Lt, for 3 months. Ageing in bottle a minimum 3 months after bottling.
Tasting Notes Rich and full bodied but very smooth. Delicious intense fruit with a complex and elegant finish.
How to Serve Superb on its own, it is also an excellent to any meat dishes, oily fish, spicy food, Mediterranean cuisine and cheese. We recommend to serve at the temperature of 16-18ºC.
Domaine Faiveley – La Framboisiere, Mercurey 2017
Domaine Faiveley is located in France, at the heart of Viticultural Burgundy, between Dijon and Beaune in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Historically based in the Côte de Nuits capital, the Faiveley family has progressively extended its domaine and today owns vineyards in the finest climats in Burgundy – Gevrey-Chambertin, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet, Mercurey and others.
To maintain all the freshness and quality of the grapes they were pressed and vinified on site in Mercurey. The wine was then taken to Nuits-Saint-Georges to be matured, in part, in oak barrels for 12 to 14 months, in nineteenth century vaulted cellars which provide ideal conditions for raising wines. The barrels come from high quality barrel makers and have been rigorously selected for their fine grain and light toast.
An aromatic nose which mixes red and black fruit with spice and a touch of smoke. Round and fleshy in the mouth (medium body) with velvety tannins and a lively freshness; flavours of raspberry and other very ripe red fruits. An early-drinking style. Enjoy with charcuterie, ham or game.
‘Cask sample. Mid cherry red. Deliciously fragrant with red fruit. It may be auto-suggestion but there’s raspberry fruit in here. A touch smoky but fine with freshness to the end. Juicy, lively.’ – 16.5/20, Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, January 2017
Dr. Loosen – Red Slate Riesling, Mosel, Germany 2015/17
THE MOSEL REGION
Located in far western Germany, the Mosel valley’s steep, southfacing slopes create the perfect climate for Riesling, giving the vines ideal exposure to the sun. The cool climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining bright acidity.
RIESLING DRY RED SLATE
This dry Riesling is produced with fruit from estate-owned vineyards in the red slate soils found in the villages of Ürzig, Erden, Lösnich and Kinheim. It is fermented in the traditional style in 3,000-liter, neutral oak casks and kept on the full lees for 12 months. The extended lees contact stabilizes the wine naturally and gives it time to develop a harmonious balance.
THE 2015 VINTAGE
‘Under close to perfect conditions, we were able to harvest grapes with optimal must weights and acidity levels, producing wines in all quality levels. The vintage also gave us excellent yields, with a beautiful balance of ripeness and acidity. The wines are dense and concentrated, but with the delicate and graceful style of the Mosel.’
Dr. Loosen – Riesling “Dr. L”, Mosel, 2017
Ernst Loosen is arguably the “King of Riesling” having won too many awards to start listing them. Fresh, clean and sweet white fruit on the nose, with juicy apples and Galia melons to the fore.
88 Points Wine Enthusiast.
“Savory whiffs of nuts and mineral convey elegance to ripe white peach and grapefruit aromas on this off-dry Riesling. Easy-drinking in style, it’s pleasantly tart, finishing on a sweet, lingering kiss of honey.” A.I. (2/1/2015)
Echeverria – Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva, Curicó Valley, 2017
Deep black cherry. Intense fruit aromas with notes of spices and delicate toast. Excellent balance and round structure. Soft and mature tannins provide a great finesse to the palate. Spicy and toasty flavours combine with hints of vanilla and chocolate.
89 Points Wine Enthusiast (2012 vintage)
Aromas of cheesy oak, jammy berry and cassis are ripe and a touch raisiny. A wide, full-bodied palate shows scratchy tannins, while core flavors of blackberry and cassis feature mild but present oak in front of a tannic finish. Drink through 2020. M.S. (3/1/2015)

Familia Schroeder – Malbec Saurus Select, 2017/18
This Malbec features an intense dark purplish red that shows maturity. On the nose it is complex – ripe red fruit aromas such as currants, plums and sour cherries melt with some spicy hints. Due to ageing in oak casks some vanilla, bitter chocolate and coffee notes are shown. The mouth-feel is pleasant and well balanced. The long, lingering finish is dominated by sweet, velvety tannins.
