Mixed Welsh wine box
A lovely selection of 6 Welsh wines from South, West and North Wales. Three of our favourite vineyards making excellent wine.
From south Wales – Parva Farm Vineyard
Parva Farm Vineyard is situated in the beautiful Wye Valley overlooking the village of Tintern and its historic Abbey.
One bottle each of:
Bryn Heulog Tintern Parva 2017
Nettles, gooseberry & white peach with a nice fleshy mid palate and good length of finish.
Pinot Noir Tintern Parva 2017
A nicely balanced, light, fruity red wine. On the palate cherries and raspberries with a hint of gooseberry.
From north Wales – Conwy vineyard
Conwy vineyard is situated at Llandudno Junction in Conwy with the stunning backdrop of the Snowdonia National Parkllaeth.
One bottle each of:
Solaris Conwy vineyard 2018
A still white wine made from the Solaris grape. Restrained herbaceous, grassy aromas and a stony minerality give way to layers of green apple, peach and lime citrus.
Rondo Conwy vineyard 2018
Beautiful medium bodied red wine with hedgerow fruit aromas and flavours of blackberry. The gentle use of one-year old oak gives a soft rounded flavour that marries with the wine’s natural acidity.
From the west coast of Wales – Llaethliw vineyard
Llaethliw vineyard is situated at the foothills of the Cambrian mountains in Neuaddlwyd Aberaeron.
1 bottle each of:
Llaethliw White 2018
A clear pale, yellow colour, on the nose it has fresh green apple aromas coupled with scents of gooseberry, stone fruits and meadow grass. The wine has a nice mineral aspect that is pursued by a generous citrus acidity.
Llaethliw Red 2018
Light purple and ready to be enjoyed now. It has aromas of ripe plum and dark cherries with notes of blackberry, cassis and an earthy undertone that leads on to a soft and smooth tannin structure. Incredibly soft and easy to drink.
A blend of Ortega and Phoenix grape varieties, named after the beautiful ‘Pydew’ where our vineyard is situated. An off-dry still white wine with aromas of ripe pear and apples. On the palate it’s lime citrus with lychee.
Perfect with: Rich white meat dishes or with a lovely ripe soft cheese.
Awards:
Bronze Medal – Welsh Wine Competition 2017 & 2018
Ortega is a grape variety used for white wine. It was created in 1948 by Hans Breider at the Bayerischen Landesanstalt für Wein-, Obst- und Gartenbau in Würzburg and was released with varietal protection in 1981. It is a cross between Müller-Thurgau and Siegerrebe. Breider chose to name the variety in honour of the Spanish poet and philosopher José Ortega y Gasset.
Ortega ripens early, is not sensitive to frost and reaches quite high must weights, typically 20 degrees Oechsle higher than Müller-Thurgau. It is therefore often used for sweet wines, which are considered to improve with cellaring.
Phoenix is a white variety of grape of German origin used for wine. It was created by Dr. Gerhardt Alleweldt (1927-2005) at the Geilweilerhof Institute for Grape Breeding in Siebeldingen in 1964, by crossing the Vitis vinifera variety Bacchus with the hybrid grape Villard Blanc.
– Light purple and ready to be enjoyed in its youth. It has aromas of ripe plum and dark cherries with notes of blackberry, cassis and an earthy undertone that leads on to a soft and smooth tannin structure. Incredibly soft an easy to drink, this wine is light enough to be chilled down slightly, and enjoyed with a tuna steak from the BBQ during the summer, or on its own with roast chicken, game or lamb during the cooler months.
