“Esprit” Domaine des Jeanne – Rosé, Luberon 2018

The Domaine

Domaine des Jeanne was formed when Welshman Lord Mervyn Davies of Abersoch was introduced to winemaker Alexandre Samour, whilst sourcing the perfect rosé for his daughter’s wedding in 2011.

The Vineyard in Oppède, in the Luberon region of Provence, is situated between the mountains and the sea, close to the legendary wine-producing commune of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

The domaine’s first harvest was in 2012, releasing their first rosé in 2013, named ‘Jeanne’ after his Mervyn’s wife and Alex’s daughter. Jeanne appropriately means ‘divine gift’, and represents the importance of family to both founders.

The Wine

Lovingly produced from grenache, syrah and clairette grape varieties, its rose petal colour precedes a red and white fruit bouquet highlighted with citrus notes; a well-balanced crisp palate, full of freshness, with a subtle fruity finale.

This wine works well on its own or partnered with fish, spicy foods and lamb. Enjoy over the next couple of years.

– It is a pale coral pink in the glass. Enticing aromas of juicy ripe strawberry, white peach, passionfruit and lemon peel permeate the nostrils. Upon the palate, it appears bone dry. Ribbons of gossamer silk texture and an enchanting slipperiness advance at just the right moment, giving way to charming and refined layers of white peach, cherry, tangerine and citrus, with hints of more exotic spices, passion fruit, and mango. White peach, dried mango, and white cherry all ride out on a wave of honey tinged with sage. Streaked with racy minerality and a lingering river-stone and pink grapefruit blossom aftertaste.

6 Bottles for the price of 5!

Viader Vintners has worked with Domaine Calmel & Joseph for many years now and we are delighted to bring you this special offer for their Côtes de Roussillon Villages 2016.

Set in the heart of 200 uninterrupted hectares the Domaine sits in a remarkable geographical position. At altitudes near to 300 metres, the cultivated plots are surrounded by richly diverse woodland and wild Mediterranean scrub.

Their ethics are to be admired;

  • An innovative Domaine : The site is perfectly adapted to the adoption of respectful agriculture and innovative techniques. Because of its isolation, the Domaine is in a unique position to try innovative methods of cultivation.
  • Organic farming methods : Putting life at the heart of the Domaine is our priority, they switched to organic farming for the entire estate. They use no chemicals, whether it be pesticides, herbicides or fungicides, but only natural products in extremely low doses such as Sulphur or tiny amounts of copper, and principally plant extracts and essences. Their work consists of re-establishing life in the soil to encourage mycorrhizae, worms, bacterial activity, fungi and insects.
  • They believe firmly in plant biodiversity.

Côtes de Roussillon Villages 2016 tasting notes:

Deep purple & red in colour, almost black. The nose is pronounced with hints of ripe red fruits, almost jammy. Cherry, fig and dried plum dominate. The attack is concentrated but soft. Natural sugar envelops soft tannins. Aromas of candied fruits cover the back of the palate. Nice balance and good length.
